On the 11th of November 2020, the DARIAH General assembly has accepted the file of Switzerland as observer member of DARIAH from the 01.01.21 to the 31.12.23, under the lead of DaSCH (see DaSCH 12th November announcement). This vote requires an adaptation of the DARIAH status, and the final acceptation is now in the hands of the European Commission. Switzerland is indeed the first country to have applied as a DARIAH observer member. This status is conceived to lead to the full membership.

Prof. Dr. Lukas Rosenthaler has presented at the DARIAH GA the Swiss membership file, as director of DaSCH, the Data and Service Center for the Humanities. All Swiss institutions working on Digital Humanities can rejoice of this great moment, that follows a first step 2014-2020 during which nine Swiss academic institutions have been DARIAH cooperating partners: EPFL, the Swiss Academy of Social Sciences and Humanities, the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, the Universities of Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel and Zurich. From the 01.01.21, all the Swiss academic institutions working in DH can be in touch with DaSCH to foster the DARIAH presence in CH, as soon as the European Commission would have confirmed the adaptation of the DARIAH status.

In waiting for the official announcement by DARIAH and DaSCH!
