In April 2020, a first Swiss institution has become an OPERAS ordinary member: DH+, member of SIB (Lausanne, CH). In the autumn, two events happened in CH highlightening the contribution of OPERAS to the development of SSH research infrastructures in Europe.
On the 10th of September, two OPERAS lectures have happened online, in the framework of the conference “VREs and Ancient Manuscripts”, organized by the SNSF project MARK16. Suzanne Dumouchel (Huma-Num & OPERAS) and Yoann Moranville (DARIAH-EU & OPERAS) have presented a talk on “Increasing impact of SSH research: Use cases of OPERAS services in the EOSC”. This lecture has been the first information in CH about SSH services put on EOSC: OPERAS Certification Service and the OPERAS Research for Society Service, based on the Hypotheses Platform. The second lecture has been performed by Erzsébet Tóth-Czifra (DARIAH-EU) in the framework of the H2020 project OPERAS-P, WP 6.6: “Rethinking text, techné and tenure- VREs as an evaluation and peer-review challenge in Humanities”. The enquiry about this innovative topic has notably underlined that “only through strengthening evaluative communities around VREs for textual criticism can we eliminate the biggest barrier in the mass adoption of open and digital data sharing”.
On the 22nd of October, Elisa Nury and Claire Clivaz (DH+, SIB) have presented a paper at the Swiss Data Research Day in Geneva and online: “Research Data as a New Model of Scholarly Writing in SSH (H2020 project OPERAS-P)”. The paper has presented preliminary results of the WP 6.5 of OPERAS-P, arguing that the open research data fosters new models of scholarly writing in SSH and requires proper ways of certification. An article is in preparation with six co-authors of the WP 6.5 for the proceedings of the conference. Nury and Clivaz have also presented their primary results at the OPERAS-P workshop organized at the annual DARIAH conference by Erzsébet Tóth-Czifra with Maciej Maryl (IBL PAN) and Jadranka Stojanovski (University of Zadar, Croatia): “Does Communication belong to Scholarly Primitives? Innovations in scholarly communication through the lenses of Digital Humanities”.
As additional news about OPERAS in CH, two Swiss experts have been nominated at its Scientific Advisory Committee: Christine Choirat (Swiss Data Science Center, EPFL & ETH) and Elena Šimukovič (Zurich University of Applied Sciences, ZHAW). Claire Clivaz had the opportunity to present OPERAS at a twinning of five National Points of Contact on the 28th October, at the invitation of Nicole Wyss (Euresearch-CH). She will also present it at the forthcoming closing online event of the project INE-NIE, on the 27th of November in Basel (CH). In short: OPERAS has started in Switzerland.
Claire Clivaz is Head of Digital Humanities+ at SIB, Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, Lausanne (CH). She is leading projects in DH and New Testament. This blog presents the activities of the group DH+.
